Zeballos Elementary Secondary School

Vancouver Island, School District 84 resides on the beautiful West Coast of Vancouver Island in the traditional territory of the Nuu-chah-nulth First Nations, and delivers public education to approximately 350 students in the First Nations communities of Kyuquot, Oclucje, Ehatis, and Tsaxana, as well as the rural communities of Zeballos, Tahsis and Gold River.

The District is inviting applications from qualified persons to join the District’s leadership team, to be placed in Zeballos Elementary Secondary School, effective September 2023.

The Vice-Principal will work with their Principal on initiatives that improve student achievement and enhance a safe and caring school culture. The Vice-Principal will have a teaching assignment with a portion allocated to administrative and non-educational responsibilities. The Vice-Principal will assist in fostering an environment of instructional excellence where staff thrive in helping students to reach their full potential.

The Vice-Principal will have the ability to build positive relationships essential to the success in this position. As a champion of respect and inclusion, the Vice-Principal will be an innovative leader with a well-developed sense of organization, problem solving, time management, and conflict resolution skills to support the school community. The Vice-Principal will value the input of all community partners and stakeholders, communicate in an open and transparent way and use technology to support learning and administrative activities.

The candidate we seek will demonstrate the following:
?A belief that every child can learn;

?The ability to consider and respond appropriately to the needs, feelings and capabilities of others in a tactful, compassionate and respectful manner;

?The ability to plan and organize for effective instruction, differentiation and assessment;

?The ability to create and maintain an optimal learning environment for each student while managing student behaviour and classroom dynamics;

?The ability to capture and maintain students’ interest, effort, participation and enthusiasm for both the content and the process of learning;

?The ability to utilize balanced assessment and feedback to improve student learning including the use of formative and summative assessment strategies;

?The ability to collaborate with others to achieve group goals and objectives;

?The ability to create and maintain a caring, inclusive and supportive environment for all students;

?The ability to demonstrate flexibility, to adjust and to adapt to changing circumstances.

Qualifications include a Master’s degree in education completed, in progress or a commitment to undertake such a program. A member in good standing with the BC Teacher Certification Branch is required. The District offers a moving allowance, pro-d allowance, isolation allowance, and affordable teacherages to rent.
