The opportunity: The Director of Client Focused Solutions, Health & Risk Solutions will drive the business unit’s product, solution, and partnership strategy with the goal of effectively maintaining and enhancing the company’s position in the marketplace as a premier provider of Stop-Loss insurance and emerging leader in solutions aligned to self-funded employers. In partnership with designated external partners and functional leaders within the business, this role will spearhead the process of identifying and implementing new and enhanced product and service solutions that help clients to better manage their self-funded plans, improve health outcomes, and create an enhanced digitally enabled service experience.

The solutions we will deliver will allow Sun Life to create new value on the frontiers of the self-funded employer health space, expand our footprint, and create competitive advantage for our Stop-Loss and Health business.

Ideal candidates will bring a unique suite of experiences and skills, meeting and exceeding the core qualifications required of the role, and also demonstrate the ability to sub- specialize in one of the following disciplines within the Client Focused Solution team:

How you will contribute:

  • Assesses market and client research – analyzes data collected through voice of client research, design thinking sessions, and stakeholder / partner / client relationship activities
  • Develops strategy and action plan to drive development and growth in new and enhanced products, services, and programs (Client Focused solutions)
  • Represent Sun Life in the external market, including but not limited to, meetings with key producer partners, attendance at large scale industry events, Sun Life sponsored distribution / thought leadership / PR activities, and social media
  • Leads exploration and prioritization sessions within external vendors, business partners, Pinnacle Care, Stop Loss business, and sub functional teams as needed
  • Builds business case and financial models to be used in assessment, prioritization, and steering discussions with functional leaders / primary business stakeholders
  • Translates concepts into actionable project and road map. Secures business resources, partners with Functional Leaders and Program Managers, develop action plan, and build systems to track execution
  • Coach and develop talent - direct management of Senior Product Consultant and support of Rotational Leadership program participant

What you will bring with you:

  • Ability to work with a diverse range of people
  • 7+ Years in management level position within Product Development or Product Management
  • 7+ Years of experience working in Self-funded employer services, protection products, or related experience within healthcare industry
  • Knowledge of key business drivers and Client facing capabilities within Stop-Loss and Self-funding space
  • Critical thinking skills: Can identify connections between abstract concepts and use critical thinking to outline a future vision / identify possible actions to meet vision.
  • Demonstrated competency in leading teams through strategy and design thinking sessions
  • Ability to analyze distill client research and data. Proficient in data analysis, segmentation, and business model creation
  • Competent in building business cases and positioning presentations
  • Demonstrated evidence of delivery of concept from ideation stage through execution and on-going management
  • Skilled in managing small, mid, and large scale multi-functional projects. Proficient in Product and Project Management Processes
  • Experienced in working with external vendors and partners. Ability to both assess and vet capabilities, and to form and effectively manage relationships
  • Capable of building strong relationships and maneuvering projects through matrixed organizations
  • Expertise in leading through influence / can manage without authority
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to think creatively to resolve, routine, complex and/or non-routine issues

If you are a California resident, the salary range for this position is:

  • Southern region: $148,100-$222,100 annually
  • Central region: $156,100-$234,200 annually
  • Northern region: $166,900-$250,400 annually

If you are a Colorado resident, the salary range for this position is $141,300-$212,000 annually.

If you are a New York resident, the salary range for this position is $166,900-$250,400 annually.

If you are Washington resident, the salary range for this position is $156,100-$234,200 annually.

We consider various factors in determining actual pay including your skills, qualifications, and experience. In addition to salary, this position is eligible for incentive awards based on individual and business performance as well as a broad range of competitive benefits.
