About the Role


The Specialist Commissioning will execute the Commissioning activities for a set of projects that are part of the Project portfolio of work in Minerals Americas Projects. The candidate will bring knowledge background in Commissioning activities during planning and execution of mining related medium and large projects. The Specialist Commissioning will be responsible for executing the Commissioning strategy and plan to ensure readiness to start handover to operations.

The role reports to the Manager Commissioning in Mineral Americas Project Team. The role is based in the Escondida or Spence Asset.


In this role you will:


  • Support HSE performance through proactive leadership, apply BHP's risk management framework and build a risk aware culture to support safe and productive performance outcomes.
  • Execute the development and maintenance of Commissioning strategy, standards, processes, and plans for capital projects.
  • Execute activities for capital optimization program, increasing capital efficiency and productivity within the Commissioning program.
  • Coordinate external resources deployed into the Execution of Commissioning related deliverables, including but not limited to plans, processes, and procedures
  • Execute Commissioning budgets and schedule for both study and execution phases.
  • Manage risks and implements and monitors controls related to Commissioning scope.
  • Execute the execution of commissioning and business readiness methodologies, strategies and plans in accordance with program\project systems and standards
  • Execute value creation and preservation through application of continuous improvement techniques to program standards and procedures
  • Execute risk and quality management plans to assure effective management of the project’s commissioning, handover and business readiness.
  • Identify, engage, and manage a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders
  • Strive to achieve 100% safety, 100% customer value and 0% waste
  • Collaborate and align resources with peer Commissioning and Ops Readiness teams including Site Operations, Maintenance, Engineering and BHP Operating System.

About You


  • Engineering degree
  • 05 years minimum of Mining experience in Project Execution.
  • Relevant commissioning experience in mining major projects with special emphasis on Concentrator, Leaching and Tailings related projects or program environment at a Contractor and EPC(m) level.
  • Experience at the owner level, in the Mining sector would be advantageous.
  • Experience in study and execution-related projects including copper flotation, copper leaching, NPI and copper tailings.
  • Fluent in Spanish and intermedium English level
