EQUIPMENT OPERATORS/LABOURERS (CASUAL/CALL-IN)
The City of Corner Brook is presently seeking qualified persons for Casual/Call-in work with experience and certification in heavy equipment operation. Successful candidates called for work will be placed in the casual labour pool (C.U.P.E. Local 706), such individuals will be utilized in all areas of the public works operation which may include the operation of snow and ice removal/control equipment and associated duties. Successful candidates will be required to operate various pieces of heavy equipment including but not limited to: front end loader with bucket, wing, blade and snow blower attachment, single axle and tandem salt/sand trucks and sidewalk tractors with various attachments.
Interested candidates must possess, at minimum, a valid Class 5, Class 8 (traction engine) and Class 9 (air brake) Newfoundland Labrador driver’s license that was attained through successful completion of a recognized post-secondary training institute program. Preference will be given to applicants who possess a valid Class 3. Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalency.
Candidates must be capable of carrying out tasks of moderate to high levels of physical labour and a pre-employment medical will be required. Ideally, candidates will have a safe driving record, several seasons of work experience in snow and ice removal and heavy equipment operation; possess valid certification in safety training in areas such as safe trenching, WHMIS, overhead power line hazard, first aid, confined space entry, and traffic control. Candidates are to provide a copy of a recent drivers abstract along with their resume and certifications.
