The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Specialist, Planner/Scheduler to join our North Atlantic Project Group in Sudbury. This is a permanent position.

Provide planning and scheduling services to support the North Atlantic Project Group Sudbury Mines FEL3 and Execution Projects from the conceptual to the planning and implementation phases to ensure that projects present a realistic project timeline. These timelines are directly inputted into the Vale business plan models, which are used by Senior Management to assist in the overall Base Metals strategic plan and for input into the financial justification of new significant dollar investments.   • Ensure consistency and oversight in the project planning and scheduling approach on all NAPG Sudbury Mines FEL3 and Execution projects to reduce surprises associated with a poor plan and schedule.
  • Develop a realistic project plan and schedule to meet the project objectives.
  • Ensure that all standard procedures and systems for project planning and scheduling are followed, per Vale Project Management Model (currently SPE).
  • Responsible for coordinating all aspects of the planning and scheduling functions across all work locations and ensuring the schedules are integrated into one master schedule.
  • Ensure that proper WBS, coding and resources are integrated into the schedule.
  • Implementing project planning procedures in accordance with standards as well as preparing and maintaining the timeline for development and setup of various schedules.
  • Ensuring plans and schedules are prepared and integrated according to project standards and contract requirements.
  • Maintaining the schedule Basis of Schedule Document to provide full visibility on the current schedule assumptions, risks, and opportunities.
  • Perform periodic project schedule risk review.
  • Has exceptional knowledge of Primavera P6 and provides overview and expert advice for the use of Primavera and Microsoft Project on various FEL3 and Execution projects.
  • Performs regular quality checks and signs off on project schedules.
  • Reviews contracted third party work plans and schedules for accuracy, thoroughness, and completion.
  • Review and monitor planning and scheduling initiatives in support of the SPE throughout the life of the project. Analyze variance from baseline and recommend corrective actions including Earned Value (EV) analysis.
  • Provide training for Vale scheduler/planners on Primavera and on the SPE project scheduling guideline.
  • Has an exceptionally good understanding of Earned Value Management and ensures that the projects apply proper methodologies for measuring and reporting project progress and performance metrics.
  • Ensure continuous improvement and updates to the scheduling SES procedures, as required.
  • Perform/Coordinate Primavera P6 administration, setting up of the EPS, OBS and user access for all Project Development FEL Studies projects.
  • Support the implementation of the project WBS in the setup of the project SAP structure.
  • Will have excellent experience on the planning of major capital projects for both underground mining and above surface projects.
  • Is able to highlight to the project and to management areas of concern on a project schedule and provide recommendations, as necessary.
  • Is proficient with preparing and presenting PowerPoint presentations regarding status of project scheduling to management. Perform weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual schedule update route on time to meet project or corporate requirements.
  • Develop and review master schedule resource plan on regular periodic basis to identify highs and lows in resource usage/availability and recommend corrective actions to Project Managers

About You

Education:

  • Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Business or Management required
  • PMI-Scheduling Professional (PMI-SP) or AACEI – Project Scheduling Professional is an asset
  • P. Eng. designation is an asset

Experience:

  • Over 10 years of experience in a similar subject area

Skills and Experience:

  • Experience and knowledge of mining & construction processes and procedures and international projects as asset
  • Proficient use of Primavera P6, Acumen Fuse, Primavera Risk Analysis (PRA), PRISM Project Manager, MS Project, SAP, MS PowerPoint, Excel, Power BI
  • Ability to develop and manage relationships with a diverse range of professionals in a mining & construction atmosphere.
  • Good understanding of PMI Practice Standard of Scheduling (latest edition).
