Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role

The Senior Adviser, Early Childhood Education coordinates the implementation of early childhood initiatives across Te Mahau-HB/Tairāwhiti. They will support the translation of policy into day-to-day implementation work including project planning, risk management, monitoring and evaluation.

Works across teams to maintain an overview of the direction and implementation of the project plans/work plans across the early childhood education portfolio of work, working to ensure goals are achieved.

To be successful in this role you will have the following capabilities and competencies:

  • Proven leadership expertise to coach and constructively challenge others to learn and grow in a safe and encouraging environment
  • Accomplished in developing and delivering workplans that align to organisational strategies and work programmes using data and insights to identify trends, risks and opportunities to influence and guide organisational and system level informed decision making
  • A track record of bringing people together and leading, coaching, and mentoring others to achieve outcomes.
  • Solution focused and problem solver - strategic and creative thinking, focus on Māori potential and supporting real and sustainable change.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand linkages with initiatives within and outside their area of work.
  • A knowledge and understanding of the NZ education system in particular the Early Learning sector
  • Recent successful experience in working alongside ngā Kōhanga Reo purapura and whānau to support positive outcomes for tamariki

You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and te reo Māori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.

Mātau rōpū ake | About our ministry, group, and team

At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whanau. To better deliver on this, we are currently undergoing an organisational design change. The transition phase to improve the way we deliver our purpose will be complete in 2023.

Te pūtake me te kawenga | Our purpose and role

Te Mahau | HB/Tairāwhiti is a frontline group. Our frontline groups collectively provide leadership and integrated services to the sector and others. This includes services, such as learning support and education advice and regulation functions for schools/kura and early learning services, including ngā kōhanga reo. As a frontline group we develop and harness existing relationships with communities at the regional and local level through the Directors of Education, including deep relationships with iwi and hapū. Our Directors of Education have the lead role and relationship with early learning services, kōhanga reo, school and kura, and this means they will be across all the services we provide at a local level.
